A data platform to build, manage and scale

Imagine that,

Several machines in a factory are working together to produce high-end electronics. Each machine reports performance metrics —such as temperature, speed, and output— to a central data platform. The factory manager, John, uses this platform to monitor production efficiency, identify potential bottlenecks, and optimize operations. When a machine's temperature goes beyond a set threshold, the system triggers an alert to prevent breakdowns. Imagine that, you need a dataplatform to build, manage and scale.

We follow 3 steps to turn your imagination into software

Step 1: The Scenario

When dive deeper into the challenges of the factory you see scenarios where machines producing data, a platform aggregating and analyzing this data, and a manager is using the insights to make decisions that ensure smooth operation. Backlot offers a generic and well structured way of working to define these scenarios. After which you can easily define what's needed (the roles) and what you already have (the actors).

Step 2: The Roles

Within the scenarios we are likely going to see the need for information or data. Otherwise you can not execute these scenarios. A couple of examples you are likely going to see for this use case are:

  • Machines: Which do have metrics such as temperature, speed, and production rates.

  • Factory workers: Which doe have roles like (Factory Manager, Engineer, etc) and maybe take decisions.

  • Receivers: Think about phones receiving text messages or email addresses receiving emails.

  • Notifications: Which are messages triggered by abnormal values or thresholds, such as a machine overheating or just default messages about how many products are created

Step 3: The Actors

During step 3 we dive into the factories current (software) landscape. What entities or systems can full fill the role(s) described in step 2.

  • Machine Logs: Generated by a connected IoT platform. Reporting real-time data via machine IDs and sensor outputs.

  • People: Stored as entity within systems such as HRM, Time management and/or ticket systems.

  • Gmail or Outlook: for receiving emails.

  • Mobile phones: for having calls, and receiving text messages.

  • Temparture sensor logs: Which for example are created by state of the art IoT devices which do monitor the temperature of a machine.

The real power of Backlot lies in the smart layer, where actors will take on their roles. This is where the agility really begins.
